MEGHAN RYAN
FUNCTIONAL FERTILITY SPECIALIST
Our spiritual connection to nature has always been a vital part of my life, serving as a pathway to whole health. However, it was my personal struggles with pregnancy loss in my late 30s that profoundly linked this understanding to fertility and emotional healing through practices that embody and embrace our feminine nature as a healing pathway.
The challenges women face regarding health are plentiful, yet the medical system often offers a one-size-fits-all solution to the complex emotional and spiritual aspects of fertility. Fortunately, I leaned into my roots to overcome the heartbreak and shame of fertility struggles. Healing myself with these tools ignited a passion to guide other women and their partners toward overall well-being, focusing on enhancing fertility through cyclical wisdom to optimize the journey through pregnancy and beyond.
My approach integrates functional biology, mind-body connection, and the cycles of the natural environment. This personalized fertility approach incorporates Ayurveda and metabolic function alongside natural lunar and solar syncing. My journey of healing...
I always envisioned myself as a mother, but as I grew older, worries crept in about my age. At 35, I met my husband, and by 36, we were preparing for our child. I was filled with delight, yet naively thought of myself as healthy, failing to prepare adequately for conception. Instead, I focused extensively on my birth plan, while still working at full speed thinking my body was well equipped for pregnancy.
Tragically, during my last checkup at 37 weeks, we learned that our son had passed in utero. I was shocked, heartbroken, and utterly helpless. Faced with the decision of natural birth or a cesarean section, I chose to follow my birth plan and labor naturally with my doula, despite the devastating circumstances. The midwives noted that no other woman in their practice had made such a choice in a similar situation. This soul-crushing decision, though difficult, allowed me to experience birth as many women before me had, helping me process my anger, heartbreak, and loss, ultimately opening me to new possibilities.
After the birth, my midwives offered no explanation for our son's sudden passing, leading us to pursue placenta testing. Months passed without word from them about the results. During that time, I felt a deep urge to seek another path, leading me to enroll in an Ayurvedic Practitioner program. I became certified as an Ayur-Doula and simultaneously completed a Foundations in Ayurveda Nutrition and Cooking course, later going on to finish Professional Ayurvedic Chef training.
I also began taking supplements to enhance my egg quality, as recommended by an Ayurvedic Practitioner, now that I was considered an "older" maternal age. In addition I began slowing down, honoring my feminine nature, and embodying a more feminine path to fertility. A few months into my Ayurvedic journey, I found myself pregnant again—nervous but hopeful.
As time progressed, my checkups went well, and I felt good. However, around five months into my pregnancy, my new midwives reviewed my previous records and casually mentioned that my prior loss was due to Trisomy 21. I was floored—I had no idea the placenta testing revealed that our son had Down syndrome. A surge of emotions washed over me: anger at the midwives for not contacting me and regret for not having adequately prepared for that pregnancy.
While I may never know if I could have changed the past, I now understand the critical importance of preparing for conception—something that often begins months or even years in advance, with menstrual health as a foundational element. Signs of poor menstrual health—such as pain, irregular periods, heavy bleeding, clotting, and PMS—indicate that the body is struggling, which directly impacts fertility.
Additionally, approaching our menstrual cycle as a burden rather than a celebrated aspect of womanhood can also affect our fertility. Our cycle is much more than just a bleed; it represents our profound connection to the ability to create and nurture life. It is a vital sign to be honored and a way of living that embraces rest, reflection, and emotional healing—elements that, if unresolved, can block our capacity to conceive.
It has become my mission to empower women to embody this feminine way of honoring their cycles. By embracing their cyclical health, healing hormonal imbalances, and fully experiencing their emotions, women can enhance their fertility.
Whether or not you wish to have children, tapping into your inner cycle wisdom is one of the most transformative things you can do for your well-being. Your cycle serves as a pathway to an abundant life, emotional happiness, and vibrant health. It is not merely a monthly physical report card; while ignoring the signs and symptoms of your period can lead to significant health issues, it is also an emotional report card that offers insights into what is going well or what may need attention in your life.
You may not realize this, but your body is designed to heal itself. We don’t need birth control, hormone replacement, or other medications to "fix" us; what we truly need is a lifestyle that honors the shifts we experience throughout our cycle and supports natural healing.
I am here to help you tap into your body’s innate ability to heal. When your cup is full and overflowing, fertility will naturally rise as your body declares, “Yes! I have enough to support myself and another.”
